Tonight is Oak Aged night at the Holy Grail Pub in Plano. They’ll be tapping six different oak aged beers including Rumble from Great Divide, Oak Aged Arrogant Bastard from Stone, Burton Baton from Dogfish Head, and Oskar Blue’s Old Chub aged upon Hungarian Oak. Not sure if Hungarian Oak tastes different from any other oak but it should be fun to find out! Plus, a few more fantastic beers as well.
The tapping is scheduled to start at 6pm, but if it’s anything like their other events, it’ll actually start a bit earlier then that. So what are you waiting for, go drink some!

I know, I know. What happened to Wednesday? Before you ask…No, DFWHops Team didn’t drink themselves into a stupor Tuesday night and sleep through Wednesday. Instead, it was busy busy busy, and then a chance to relax in the evening. The choice was sit around writing about beer…or go out and drink some beer. Easy choice! Especially with Belgian Beer Week in full swing and rare offerings like Duvel Single on tap at places like the Moth and Saucer, with St Bendardus Tripel at the Moth, La Trappe Quad at the Holy Grail and a little Stone IRS left on tap at the Common Table, too. ( No, its not Belgian, its just delicious. )

Anyway, onto Thursday. We’re closing in on the end of Belgian Beer Week, and the deliciousness just keeps flowing.

Recently, DFWHops had a chance to attend a tasting session featuring a wide selection of beers by upcoming Dallas brewery, Peticolas Brewing Company. Peticolas is one of several new breweries preparing to open their doors, and finally break this hideous Dallas area brewery drought. There was a time that Dallas was host to quite a few microbreweries and brewpubs. My math may be slightly off, but I think that was about six hundred years ago. Since then most if not all those breweries have been washed away by the tide of economic troubles and the flood of macro-brewery swill that dominated the market for so long. In that time Dallas has been nearly erased from the craft brewing map.

Thankfully Breweries like Peticolas are about to change that.

The Common Table in Dallas has just tapped a keg of the amazing Stone Imperial Russian Stout. This is one of our all time favorite beers here at DFWhops, and on tap it’s even better. This years vintage is rich, smooth, chocolately, roasty, and entirely too drinkable for it’s own 10.5% good.

It won’t last long, so go drink some!

I already did, so look for a post on my trip to the Common Table for Stone IRS on tap coming any time now.

Saturday, the 25th, the Flying Saucer in Fort Worth is hosting another edition of their Dogfish Head Experience event. The event begins at 11AM, and lasts until they run out of delicious Dogfish Head beers. They’re tapping 7 different rare DFH beers, including Pangea, Theobroma, Red and White, Namaste, Burton Baton, Chateau Jiahu, and most impressively, the 120.

Yup, 120 Minute IPA on tap, just about rare as DFH gets around these parts. I was lucky enough to have some at the last event, and it was delicious, and nearly two years old. This will either be a brand new fresh keg, or another keg that’s at least a couple years old. Either way it’s sure to go fast.

So get ready to go drink some!
