The Demons Are Coming, The Demons Are Coming!

It’s nearly Halloween, and that means wicked things are crawling the earth. Or at least being poured into our chalices. This Halloween weekend we’ve a bounty of riches to enjoy. Not one, but two different locations are tapping the full Avery Demons of Ales lineup for us to enjoy. ( Responsibly, I hope! )

For those unfamiliar, Avery’s Demons of Ale Line Up Includes Samaels, an Oak Aged Ale, The Beast, a powerful Grand Cru, and Mephistopheles, a truly monstrous Imperial Stout. That alone makes for a hell of a lineup, but keep in mind that while they vary by vintage, these beers average between 14-17% ABV. That is some serious stuff so don’t take them lightly.

First up is the Holy Grail Pub in Plano with a two night Event they’re calling Angels and Demons. Don’t ask me why, but they’ve chosen to feature the Demons of Ales series as their Angels. Fallen Angels I suppose. Or, delicious, complex angels of ale. Thursday Night, October 27th,  they’ll be tapping 2010 vintage Samaels, The Beast, and Mephistopheles. Then, Friday night the 28th, they’ll have Unibroue Maudite, Duvel, and Rogue Dead Guy, all served with house made deviled eggs. Both nights start at 5pm, and those Demon-Angels are gonna go fast.

Then this Saturday, that’s October 29th, The Meddlesome Moth in Dallas will be featuring Flights ( yes, flights! ) of all three Demons series. That is, order the flight and you’ll get a pour of Samaels, The Beast, and Mephistopheles. That’s a pour of each, not all three poured together. But hell if you wanna dump them all in the same glass, go for it ya weirdo. Oh, and did I mention they’ll be vintage 2009? Nice. The pours start at 5pm, and don’t expect them to last long.

Been out of town for a while and unable to update. But, finally back, and just in time to post up a doozy. This Tuesday, October 18th, the Holy Grail Pub in Plano is having their Dogfish Days of Fall event.

Most importantly? They’re tapping the rare, delicious, and kick-you-in-the-face intense Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. Weighing in at a monstrous 18% and as you can imagine, heavily, heavily hopped, this is a real beast of a beer, and it’s only available in draft form for Texas at the moment. As you can imagine, kegs are not easy to come by.

They’ll also be tapping Palo Santo Marron, Burton Baton, and Pangea.

The tapping starts at 6pm, and it definitely won’t last long. So if you want to have some, you better get there early!

Plan ahead, and then…Go Drink some!

This Saturday, October 8th, the Flying Saucer in Fort Worth will be hosting their annual Beer FeAst! Actually, it’s the first time they’ve added a capitalized A to slightly alter the name, but that’s beside the point. As usual for this event you can expect a lot of rare and hard to find beers on tap, this time the list is said to top out at over 50 beers to choice form, which would make this their largest event yet. Expect beers to cross a variety of styles from stouts to sours, IPAs to Tripels, lagers and ales. Also expect to some rarities show up in cask conditioned form.

Price of admission will get you a commemorative tasting glass to keep, as well as your choice of 10 beers to sample. Want more then that? Full pours are also available for an additional fee, and I guess you might be able to buy a second tasting card. But if you do, please have someone else drive you home. Yanno, someone who hasn’t been drinking. Enjoy responsibly, people.

The event begins at noon and runs all day long. Some of these beers are going to go pretty fast, so our advice? Get there early and pace yourself. So really…what are you waiting for?

Go drink some!

This Tuesday, September 13th, the Holy Grail Pub in Plano is hosting their Dog Days of Summer Celebration. And just in case you think the recent cooler temps meant it was too late for a Summer event, this week the temps are right back into the 100’s. Yay? As hot as it’s going to be, you might as well go cool off with a few delicious, complex Dogfish Head beers. They’ll be tapping five beers specially for the event, including Palo Santo Marron, Theobroma, Burton Baton, Chataeu Jihau, and if the heat’s just too much for you, they’ll have you covered with Dogfish Head’s highly refreshing Festina Peche.

Plus, house made corny dogs and if you get there early enough, Dogfish Head glasses!

So what are you waiting for, go drink some!

Saturday, September 10th, the Dallas Zoo is hosting the Observer’s Brew At the Zoo event. It’s a large scale beer festival featuring a lot of great craft breweries including plenty from Texas. Admission ranges from $30-$60 depending on whether you get an early ticket, a VIP Pass, etc. But, included with all admissions are unlimited, yes, unlimited, tastings of the more the 60 beers that will be available.

Free advice – Don’t taste all 60 beers. More free advice? Don’t drink 60 tastings of Great Divide Yeti, either, especially if you’re driving. Be safe, and be smart, people.

The event runs from 7-10 pm, and should be a lot of fun.

Even better, food is being provided by none other then the Holy Grail Pub. Their food’s always delicious so whatever you choose you know it’s gonna taste great.

This Saturday, August 27th, come join Open The Taps at the Common Table for their DFW-Area Launch Party. The Common Table will be tapping some amazing beers to celebrate this event including a cask conditioned Saint Arnold Weedwhacker, a barrel-aged Real Ale Porter, and among others, Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. Cause nothing says refreshment in the 106 degree heat like a big, hoppy 9.5% Barleywine. Actually, if you support Open The Taps, that’s probably exactly the kind of beer you’d love to drink on tap right now. I know I would.

But wait, you might say, who are Open The Taps? Well before you shame yourself in public by asking such a question, here’s a little background on this great organization.

This week the Holy Grail Pub celebrates their 2nd Anniversary of serving great craft beer alongside great food! Come out all this week to help them celebrate.

Tuesday, they’ll be tapping a keg of the awesomely delicious Jester King Black Metal Imperial Stout. As usual for the Holy Grail, they’ll be tapping it at 6pm.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will feature even more tappings including Real Ale Dry Hopped Rio Blanco Pale, (512) Two Double Dry Hopped, and Oskar Blues Old DoubleBagger Barleywine. In that order.

And yes, that really is the name of Oskar Blue’s barleywine. But given that it’s 13.2%, I’m guessing after a few Old Doublebaggers, you wouldn’t need any bags at all to take home it’s namesake. At least, not until the following morning.

Saturday they’re featuring a BBQ Smokeout Event, so stay tuned to DFWHops for more information!

Oh, and Happy Anniversary, Holy Grail Pub! Congrats on 2 excellent years.

This Wednesday, the Fillmore Pub in Plano will be tapping a very rare keg of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. This doesn’t happen often, so if you have a chance to head over there, be sure you do. But do keep in mind it’s 18-20+% depending on vintage, so don’t be foolish and have too many. Unless you’ve got someone sober to drive you home, in which case feel free to indulge.

Either way the tapping is at roughly 7:30 and won’t last long, so get there early! It’s a fantastic beer, especially on tap, and if you’ve not yet tried it you surely don’t want to miss out.

Today is International IPA Day, so go drink something bitter. And Pale. And, I dunno, originally destined for India, maybe. Extra points if it’s pulled from an old wooden keg taken from an 18th century shipwreck.

Also extra points if you’re a pub tapping a minimum of 10 IPAs in preparation for the event. You know, like the Common Table is down in Dallas. So head on down there if you want to sample a wide variety of IPAs from the tongue-meltingly bitter, to the massive Maharaja, to the sweetly citrus flavored, to the exotic, spice meets hops flavor of the White IPA.

Whatever your taste in IPAs, and whether you the high ABV version IIPA’s or DIPAs, they’ll have you covered.

So go drink some!
